A huge trend we're seeing this winter is the use of opal effect rhinestones within nail art - a great way of introducing some frosty, icy tones to your designs and bring a touch of sparkle into these gloomy winter days. We are also seeing opal gems being used more frequently in dancewear, costume and fashion – the Victorian chic look is hitting the fashion world; just look at the beautiful costumes made for the popular Netflix show Bridgerton. Pastel opalescent shades are forefront in the designs. In our opinion, these dresses could do with a Crystal Parade makeover using Preciosa Rose Opal, Light Sapphire Opal, Chrysolite Opal and Amethyst Opal!
White Opal
This beautiful pearlescent white stone is ideal for nail art, you can use it to create Christmas or winter themes designs and is also perfect for winter wedding nail art. The Preciosa White Opal has a hint of gold in the colour, so when the light hits, it flashes with luxury. Here, Scarlett Senter has created a stunning set of nails using White Opal and Clear rhinestones, combined with the white polish and marble effect glitter, they shine beautifully.
Opal Colours
Along with the popular White Opal, Preciosa’s opal range also includes Rose, Light Sapphire, Amethyst and Chrysolite opal colours. These work together in harmony to create a pretty, vintage look, and with the pearlescent coating, they are almost frosty in appearance making them perfect for this season. Burlesque performer and costume designer Charlotte from ‘Primp my Costume’ has created these stunning pasties using both flatback rhinestones and sew on crystals.
Pointy Back Opals
Within the nail art world, another popular recent trend is applying pointy back crystals to the nail to create a chunky cluster effect. The 3D structure of the stone offers depth to the design and it is a great way of making a feature nail or focal point. By clustering the stones together using Crystal Fix nail glue, you can set large chunky rhinestones onto the nail. Crystal Parade ambassador Natalie Mugridge shows how to create a funky standout nail using pointy back opal rhinestones with her Opal Rain crystal mix.
Opals in fashion
See how Preciosa have incorporated Rose Opal into the design for their fashion wear, the pale vintage pink colour works really well with the rose gold detailing on the bag.
