These plain Irish dance buckles are sold as a pair and ready for you to decorate. Each one has a polished, curved face with an outlined centre panel and outer rim. When they're done, they sit on the front of your jig shoes.
Why decorate your own Irish dance shoe buckles?
-
Pick crystals in your dress or dance school colours for a look that ties together on stage.
-
Choose crystals to suit your budget, from affordable Zodiac to premium Preciosa.
-
Your crystal buckles can be as simple or as bold as you like.
Ways to decorate your buckles
-
22mm squares: Six 22mm Zodiac sew on squares fit each buckle perfectly for a bold, classic look.
-
16mm squares with a rim: Use eight 16mm squares per buckle, then fill the outer rim with SS20 (5mm) Zodiac flatback rhinestones.
-
Mixed sizes: Fill the whole buckle with a mix of flatback sizes for sparkle right to the edges.
-
Preciosa crystals: Preciosa flatback non hotfix crystals work well for rims and mixed-size designs too.
Our Zodiac sew on squares come in 16mm and 22mm, with shades like AB (Aurora Borealis), Jet, Light Siam, Golden Shadow and Aquamarine available in both sizes. Don't worry about the sewing holes, as sew on stones glue onto buckles too.
What you'll need
-
A pair of plain Irish dance buckles
-
Your chosen crystals (sew on squares, flatbacks or both)
-
E6000 Plus+ glue
-
Sandpaper and alcohol wipes
-
A jewel setter or crystal pick-up tool
How to decorate and attach your buckles
-
Prep the surface: Rub the front of each buckle with sandpaper. The polished finish is smooth, so roughening it gives the glue something to grip. Wipe away any dust with an alcohol wipe.
-
Plan your layout: Lay your stones out on the buckle before you glue anything. The centre panel and rim make a handy guide.
-
Glue your stones: Add a small dot of E6000 Plus+ and use your pick-up tool to press each stone into place. You don't need much glue, as too much can ooze out around the edges.
-
Let them dry: Leave your buckles to cure fully before you wear them.
-
Attach to your shoes: Thread your jig shoe laces through the arm brace on the back of each buckle, then lace up as normal.
